Beginner’s Green Smoothie

It’s a New Year and you know what that means – lots of New Year’s resolutions, and I’d hedge a bet that a majority of them somehow relate to health and wellbeing.

Breakfast: Fridge Oats

Lately I have felt extremely time-poor, so have been looking for ways to get organised and streamlined in the kitchen, while still maintaining a healthy diet.

I have seen ‘refrigerator oats’ on a few blogs and on pinterest, and although a Bircher muesli type breakfast soaked overnight isn’t a new concept for me, the idea of pre- preparing and serving breakfast in mason jars made me keen to give it a try.

Monday Munchies – Quinoa Porridge

Though I have been in a bit of a routine of eating oat porridge each morning for breakfast, I thought it would be good to have another option to change it up a bit, and having heard a lot about quinoa porridge I decided to give it a go.

Quinoa is pronounced ‘Keeen-wah’ and is a seed, despite being used like a grain. It comes both as the whole seeds – which are great for salads and hot dishes and as rolled flakes – such as I have used for this breakfast dish.

Breakfast – Morning Porridge

With the season changing and the mornings becoming crisp and chilly, there is nothing quite as warming and satisfying as a bowl of porridge. Aside from the nutritional benefits of rolled oats and the lack of added nasties like in highly processed cereals, oats really are one of the cheapest breakfast options around. With the addition of some fruit and yoghurt, the taste certainly doesn’t reflect the frugal price.
