Although recent months have been crazy busy with study and prepping for our final exams, we have still had the chance to get out and about for the occasional study break and finally got the chance to try a local vegetarian cafe that has been on our list for ages. A girl has to eat, and as you can see from the pic below, taking a study break to eat made me super happy!
Now that I am on summer holidays I finally have the opportunity to do some of my favourite things that I have been missing so much, one being my fortnightly Sunday morning visits to the Village Markets.
The Village Markets is even more special now that my wonderful friend Robbie has started hosting a stall for her new business Madison and Montana, selling vintage homewares and stunning handmade soy candles in up-cycled vintage teacups and containers.
Though we tend to stay in touch via facebook/instagram/twitter/email, it has been some time since our last meet up – so it was fabulous spending a morning catching up with some online friends in real life.
When we finally finished our exams last week, we decided to head out and treat ourselves to a new coffee place – especially since it has been a while since our last coffee adventure.
With the miserable weather we had last weekend, our plans for an outdoor celebration for a friend’s birthday were cancelled, but we were delighted to be invited to brunch at Elk instead. Elk espresso, in Broadbeach, has long been one of our favourite cafes on the Gold Coast.
Within a stones throw of the beach and outside of the craziness of the main strip, Elk is a favourite with the locals. Great coffee, fabulous food and above all an inviting atmosphere make Elk a place we will keep coming back to.
Generally, we try to stay away from Surfers Paradise.
If you have ever been to the Gold Coast you will understand why: it is busy, full of tourists and extremely tacky; complete with backpackers touting pub crawls, underdressed metermaids and its fair share of riff-raff. To make a bad situation worse, you can never find a carpark nearby.
